I had some lovely boxwoods that all died after 4 years and just pulled them out last week. I live in northern Virginia and have a small front yard and Im looking for some suggestions for new foliage.
I have a colonial home and I've cut out up to 6 feet deep for the garden space in a way line.
I'd like a low maintenance front so I can spend more time tending to my vegetable garden in the back.
I'd like suggestions for the front and id like a simple yet elegant look- no annuals! I'd prefer evergreens or green perennials with a low stature. I world love to do a wavy line with lilirope-- clumping only-- and maybe a taller plant behind it?
Yews may work, they are evergreen. They don't like super hot direct sun, do best in a Eastern exposure or a little bit of shade. There are different varieties, some smaller some get bigger, easy to trim and shape if you want to. I'm In Minnesota so I don't know if they do well in your area or not.
I'd go to the nursery and begin by finding evergreens you like, then checking growth conditions, height and width of full grown plants...to make sure they will thrive in your area.
