Transplanting when you did is not necessarily a bad time at all.
Thing is, did you get a good biiig rootball? And plant it in a nice big hole?
When did you cut back any blooms? Should be pruned after bloom or very early spring.
You know what....they don 't like to be very dry and in droughts they can go dormant. They may then bloom later when rains come or watering. Maybe you need to water it a little more for your climate.
You did not kill the Crape, you just messed with it and it will need a season or 2 to recover. Make sure to mulch.

Then I explain...Real answer is to only prune out dead limbs after tree leafs out. OR here in Missouri, you might have to cut to ground and it may grow back like a perennial.
We had a killing 20degrees at the wrong time and I lost my crape and butterfly bush last yr.
