What is it with these guys? Every single plant I bought this year died. I have never had this sort of trouble with any plant before. They LOOK like they've been underwatered (looks sort of like they wilted due to drying out too much) but they were not underwatered. I treated them sort of like Rosemary - I let them dry between waterings but not too much, and water just to get them evenly moist. Didn't flood them or let them sit in standing water and get wet feet.
I bought a replacement plant for one of the ones that died and it curled up toes within 2 days.
Soil, water, weather conditions, anyone of these or combination of them can be the problem. I've grown 1000's of them and I know they like well draining soil and not watered too often. Excess heat will slow them down too.
You don't say where you're located but this web site should be beneficial and able to answer your questions. https://www.bhg.com/gardening/plant-...african-daisy/
Wow, I always thought S. Africa would be HOT. Apparently not! It seems the area where African Daisies grow doesn't get much over 80F. And that is a "hot desert" by their definition.
It's been 100F highs here for the last couple months. Not our usual high temps, usually it rarely gets much over 90F, but global warming. Yay.
The other issue I see is that these came in typical peat heavy medium. The site you link to says they typically grow in very sandy, rocky soil. IF I try these again next year, I'll put them in the sandiest part of the rock garden instead of trying to put them in pots with other, less sand-liking flowers.
Thanks.
