You may want to give Mosquito Barrier a try.
It is garlic-based repellent that you dilute and use a garden sprayer to spray all around on shrubs, deck, etc.
It lasts about three weeks. It doesn't kill them or the the fleas, alas. Just forms a barrier that keeps mosquitoes at bay. It smells like garlic for about an hour or two, and then nothing.
We have lots of lightning bugs and bees. We don't spray around anything that it flowering as the smell confuses the bees.
