I'm looking for plants that clean the toxins from the air but are not toxic to pets. I've found a few plants that each clean a variety of different substances, but all are toxic to some level. We have lots of kids and animals of various sorts running about so we only plant with and pot indoors non toxic plants. Thanks so much.
I have a tote on top of a dresser and I screwed a couple of wooden slats to the back of the dresser and attached plant hangers to them, then hung fluorescent grow lights from them over the tote, and planted a bunch of basil in it. The basil grows great, I have a constant supply of organic fresh basil, and it's non-toxic. Makes the room smell great, too :-)
I just use GE Daylight bulbs - cheap and good enough to grow the basil. Don't need expensive grow lights.
Anyway, herbs should work for you. You just may need to give them extra light. I love growing basil, because the more you cut it, the better it grows.
