Thanks everybody for all your posts in the Garden section. I lurk here but usually don’t post. I only have about 12 square feet to garden in, but I love it. Right now I have a bumper crop of collard greens.

Many of you know that many Americans consume a junk food diet that drains their wallets and hurts their health. The media promotes the many advantages of eating a nutritious diet of home cooked meals centered around fruit and vegetables. Probably most of the American public realizes this but, sadly, it is not an affordable option for many.

MSN is promoting food desert awareness and volunteer action during May.

As you enjoy the harvests from your garden, you might consider donating to those not as blessed as you.

I think that's amazing. I would make my whole yard a garden, if I could, and dish out some awesome tomatoes, cucumbers, etc., I'd try to grow everything!

I was even thinking of having my own garden at home and one at a community garden. The community garden costs $25 a plot but you can grow anything (sorry, no marijuana). I think it's a pretty big square area. The community also makes its own compost that you can offer to or take from. There are volunteers there to keep the areas up and tidy, but you will have to keep your own garden up. It's mandatory you give a few days of work or you lose your plot.

Thanks for posting that link to Ample Harvest. I wish that had been there when my father was alive. He loved to farm and garden (he had a farm garden) and he never knew what to do with all he grew. He tried as hard as he could to find places to give vegetables to and had such poor luck. If I ever get my garden growing that bountifully, I'm going to use that site.
