Hello all… I have a yard that was 'tossed' in by the owner while redoing house. It's a total mess. It appears to be planted on nothing but 'dirt'. Weeds everywhere and a constant source of trouble. Any suggestions for weeding this yard other than hand pulling? I'm wondering if maybe there is a simple and very very cheap alternative to weed killer?
Thanks
Alternative to weed killer is to hand pull the weeds.
You can only use broadleaf killer on lawn, or you kill everything. A few of the anti-weed tricks won't work on lawns because you need to kill the weeds and not kill the grass.
It helps a little bit to cut the grass often and short enough to prevent seed heads from forming on the weeds. Some if the really noxious weeds will form seed heads close to the ground if you keep them cut short.
And, of course, cutting has no effect on weeds that form from runners.

You're not going to eliminate the weeds easily and you can't do it in a year or two. I've been at it for 23 years with my yard and I'm still fighting the weeds. My advice is to mow the grass on a high setting, and get a 2-gallon sprayer and mix up some basic weedkiller such as ORTHO Weed B Gon.

If you OWN the property... get down on your knees and dig them out 2 sq ft at a time.
For a rental? Hose end sprayer herbicide. (Bayer makes the best)
Then over seed (after the heat season).
I'd be careful to not kill all of the weeds right now because there may not be much left.
