Is there a way to keep the "bully birds" from hogging all the bird seeds? (lawn, trees)

They're blackbirds and devour most of the seed within 24 hours. They're aggressive towards other types of birds that want their share too.

Nature. They don't fight when humans don't intervene.


Just stand out there and chase them as much as you could. The others will understand and appreciate it and hopefully come back to eat without those bullies.

I have the same problem. I finally quit putting seed out in noticeable areas. I have one bird feeder tucked into a tree and I get more of the other birds than the blackbirds there. I live in Florida so I doubt any of the birds really need my help.

Take down the feeders for a week or two. The blackbirds will eventually move on.

They have the feeders that will close when the perch-bar is weighted-- I believe they're usually adjusted so smaller, lighter birds can eat, but when the larger birds land and try, the feeder closes. I assume this situation is the reason they were invented.

You may try the bird feeder that excludes squirrels and larger birds

In my yard it's the mourning hogs...I mean mourning doves.

I sometimes have to shoo them off so the other birds have a chance for at least a couple of seeds.

I do have a bird feeder too which the mourning doves are too big to make a perch on, so there is karmic balance.

We have several very large blue birds eating up large chunks of suet every time they fly by. Enormous ones. The others get theirs, but my husband is putting up suet left and right.

NO, they were invented to stop squirrels from eating the seed... Squirrels weigh way more than many birds...

We don't have a bird feeder.

We have four pet birds, and we go outside onto the front lawn to blow the hulls from their communal seed container. Sometimes whole seeds spill out as well.

Seems that the sparrows are always the first to arrive and they seem to glom most of the goodies. We've seen the odd starling on the lawn as well, but there's never been any bullying.

We have trees and the river across the street from where we live, so there are all sorts of birds around.
