What is the best no mow or least amount of mowing in the summer grass for a warmer climate that does not look like a shag carpet??

fescue.
dormant in summer.
mow it down in May and go away.
(well, except for weeds)

Centipede. It does need to be cut one in a while, but not often.

Now that can look bad in a place like Houston. Centipede grass kinda looks like Saint Augustine I Just hate moving once a week in the summer.

I have no idea why, but neither were a problem in that lawn in that yard in the 1980s and '90s.

It's extremely high maintenance, high water use, not cold tolerant and if not maintained properly becomes little more than a bed of weeds. Besides all of that, dichondra isn't a grass.
