There's also a pool alarm if you have any interest... it let's you know if anything gets in the water. (not good if you have a pet that likes a frequent dip like my sister's goldens)

I have two big dogs - I'm going to have to see if they enjoy getting in the water. I think one of them might (lab mix who loves water but she's old - LOL).
did you post the plans? our pool digging is supposed to start 1/31/20. a little sooner than i expected so im trying to get some things moved asap. deepest is going to be 6 feet and shallow end will be 3 1/2 feet. my wife insisted it be shallow enough for my 5 year old to be able to stand. hopefully everything will go smoothly for me and you.
also, i went with a liner. that seems to be the most popular thing now even with high end companies that build a lot of gunite pools recommending it.

Good luck with the liner - seriously. I'm sure it will do great. We're sticking with gunite. We are friends with the people who are putting in the pool and they have all sorts of options available to them, and they went with gunite. Both options have their pros and cons but in the end I am sure both our pools will be beautiful!
We are looking at a start date of sometime in February and then if there's no weather drama (and there can be - but who knows) it should be finished in six weeks from the date they start digging. But we have to get it approved by the HOA (generally takes a couple of weeks) and then we have to change out our septic system from aerobic to drip, and THEN they can start on the pool, so I'm feeling like it may be March before it all lines out. Who knows. I've determined not to get too frustrated.
I called the pool company yesterday and told them "We're going out of the country on vacation in May. Do you think you will be done with the pool by then?" They said yes so we'll see.
KA, this is SO exciting! I am jealous ... I would LOVE a pool (and my back yard alone is about 3/4 acre so I could definitely fit a big one) but alas, it doesn't make much sense in New Hampshire unless I could build a heated building around it!

Thank you so much! When we moved and bought this house, it really doesn't need a lot of updating on the inside, but the yard (in Texas with it's long, hot summers) just SCREAMS for a pool. So I told my husband, "Ok, so unlike a kitchen or bathroom renovation, pools don't get a dollar for dollar return on investment for many years, so once we start digging, you better be sure we're here for at least ten years!"
Around here, after about two or three years, you can see about a 50 percent return on investment. After eight or ten years of course, unless there's a zombie apocalypse, we should be fine. But I'm not studying giving away a dang pool. LOL!

I'll never forget the year my neighbors were never in the pool (including summer) and when I asked them why they said "the water just isn't warming up". I thought to myself, what a waste a pool is around here if it doesn't have a heater. They finally started using it in August and it was literally for 1 month only that year. I think was 2014? No but around here we can have the opposite problem - the water can get too warm to be a nice cool pool because our summers are so long and hot. Sort of defeats the purpose. I have some friends who have a pool but their pool gets lots of sun since it faces west. Thankfully ours will get afternoon shade plus we're going to have several bubblers and jets and a waterfall to keep the water moving.
I just am not going to get a chiller. I am on the fence about a heater too but we can add that easily later. From what I hear, they really jack up the utility bills!
