Well, this is Texas and it was zero degrees farenheit this morning, with ten inches of snow on the ground (and more in the forecast tonight and tomorrow) and a "feels like" temperature of -10. Expecting another 4 to 6 inches of snow and ice over the next 24 hours. Enough already! I am going to definitely remind myself of this when I'm complaining about the heat in September or October!

I turned my pool off at the breaker and drained the pumps (yes, in the freezing, blowing snow in the middle of the night, with a flashlight, digging out plugs - YUCK!) and now it's just a huge block of ice in my back yard. Oh well, we'll see what happens when things thaw out.

Meanwhile, my cousin's two dogs FELL THROUGH THE ICE on her pool and she had to rescue them in single digit cold. Apparently the dogs couldn't tell where the pool was because of snow on top of the ice. My dogs are old and are more cautious but it still worries me a bit.

An outdoor faucet and two of my indoor faucets froze up but two of the three (the ones inside) are working again - amazing. The outside one is still frozen. Oh well. At least as I type this, my power came back on, and my internet, and my water, so life is good inside - for now anyway!

I lost power for 3 hours Tuesday but thankfully it's been on ever since. You wouldn't know it from the news, but only about 15 percent of Texas' 29 million people lost power, and I guess I'm one of them, though it's been back on ever since 5 am Tuesday.

Only .002 percent of Texans are still without power. It was a very temporary issue for the vast majority of Texans thank goodness. The cold is a whole other matter though - it's been crazy cold, setting all time records in many places, including here. It got down to -6 degrees here!

The kids are out skiing and sledding in our neighborhood because we got ten inches of snow! But it's been so bitterly cold that the adults haven't been doing much venturing out. And there's a layer of ice on top of the snow now, so the roads are bad and most businesses are still shut down.

We should be back up in the mid 60s by the middle of next week, but tonight it's supposed to get back down to about 13 degrees again. It was so cold today! But at least the sun came out.

I am ready for the warmer weather FOR SURE. And I have a serious case of cabin fever by now.

I have a lot of family all over Texas, are they in the ".002 percent" without power? San Antonio, Dallas and Houston downtown metro. San Antonio family without power with young children, after 3 days drove 4 hours to relatives. Another relative without power in downtown Houston near major hospital for 36 hours.
Another relative in Dallas lost power/got it back but wasn't sure how long they'd have it.
Another relative of a step-sibling has been without power 3 days got it back today.

Don't know why you think a marginal number of TX people are without power. Fox news?

It's a good time to sell your house. Lot of people moving to TX and pools are very desirable.

The hotter the weather the bigger the demand for a pool.
Boy, you got that right!

We live in SoCal but were considering moving back to Texas (I’m a native), specifically San Antonio, to be closer to family.

We finally found a place we thought would work for us, and we were one of 24 offers *over* asking.

We didn’t get the house and decided just to stay put right where we are.
We already have a great pool home and will just have to visit Texas a little more often.

Not just yet, though.

And believe me, y’all really are in my thoughts and my prayers right now. â¤ï¸

No, I don't watch Fox News. I am getting my news from other, various sources.

Like the Texas Tribune which clearly states that 2 million households were without power - which would include my household since we were without power for 3 hours. (There are about 2.85 people per household in Texas - and there are over 29 million residents of Texas.)

https://www.texastribune.org/2021/02...qakMxMtjwfO2Tg

Thankfully that number is now down to under 400,000 people (not households - individuals).

I live in Texas. I know lots and lots of Texans. I mean, if we're swapping personal anecdotes.

Our nephew is in Kady and he had no power for one day and no water for one day, but said just a few block all around him were out of both for an extended period of time. He had one pipe crack outside the house.
