In business trade, there is a wholesale price and retail price... When I ask landscapers, there is only one price for sod? Doesn't matter if you are a homeowner or a landscaper? Is this true?

It does matter. Wholesale prices are for bulk pricing and for those who typically are repeat customers, like your landscaper. He will pay the wholesale price, and you'll pay the retail price, and his profit for doing the job is the difference between the two.

We have nurseries here where i live that only sell to licensed landscapers, they will not sell to the general public. There are several like that throughout the country. They sell more in bulk to the professionals than they do in bits and pieces to the general public. That causes a pricing battle to lure the most active professionals in the market to their nursery for the business (wholesale).

We have a couple businesses nearby that produce/grow sod. They allow homeowners to come and purchase and pickup sod in their trailer/pickup truck at their site. It's half the price of what local home centers (Menards) sells it for.

In some areas you can find sod for sale on Craig's List.

That's strange .. I am looking for 150 pallets of zoysia sod and it's all the same price whether I buy one pallet or 150 pallets.. I even had landscapers quote me the same price per pallet plus labor and their price per pallet is the same as mine..

Evil - It sounds like you are only dealing with the landscapers. What about finding the sod producer and picking the sod up "at the factory". (In your area if the sod producers will not sell to general public then you're out of luck).
In the case I stated, the middle man (landscaper) is being left out.
The seller is making the same profit whether he sells it to me for $3.50 a roll or a landscaper for the same. (The landscaper is most likely getting a better price because he's purchasing a larger amount.)

Right now I am about to purchase about 30 bales of straw for straw bale gardening. A few local farmers want $3.50 a bale and the local plant stores are charging $6 to $7 a bale. Different product but same principle.

Default NG Turf - Premium sod

NG Turf is a sod farm located in North Georgia. I know they offer a landscaper discount and 30 day credit terms, but there is a process to becoming a "preferred vendor".

I also know they allow homeowners to come and purchase and pickup sod in their trailer/pickup truck at their site, but it is not discounted, because it is very high quality, premium sod -- straight from the farm.

If you are local to Georgia, you should give NG Turf a call.
