Can you mix plants that are in a big planter? For example fruit like tomatoes and also green leafy vegetables like collards and chard? Where can peppers go? Do you know anyone who's grown blackberries or blueberries or strawberries in a planter? Thanks.

Of course you can mix but like someone here said, the fertilizing or soil PH might be different than the vegetable needs so will be hard to get them both to thrive.

Anywhere. When they are grown in pots I find them to be extra hot if growing the hot kind.

Would some tomato plants look ban in a flowery home landscaping?
What about HOAs, do they prohibit this, especially in the backyard not seen from the street?
Why not? As long as they don't argue, all is good.

Marigolds keep bugs away from tomato plants, a good mix.

I plant Allysum around perimeter in same barrel with Swiss Chard, Dill and Onions are also good complement; Parsley with my Tomatoes, etc... If not already mentioned go to the Companion planting guide for which vegetables / flowers function as complements to each other.

Some people consider vegetable plants as ugly. Maybe potatoes or cabbage are ugly... but what about tomato or peppers? Can a tomato plant be considered decorative? Maybe certain types (cherry) over other types (Beefsteak).

That is what I do. I have mostly Marigolds between my vegetable plants and never found bugs eating my vegetables.Of course a chipmunk occasionally stole some sweet million cherry tomatoes, but that is alright, unless it is my first tomato of the season

I have grown both blueberries and blackberries in a planter. The problem you will face is the roots will ball up and eventually need to be planted in the ground. If you don't, they will eventually die in 3 to 5 years(there is always the exception of course). Blueberries can live, when planted free, 25+ years. I have, to date, 12 different types or cultivars of blueberries(currently have 48 plants). They do not behave the same, but in general, the roots are shallow but spread out horizontally. I only have three different types of blackberries (they are surviving/thriving in a 4b zone despite being listed as zone 6 and above) but hundreds of stalks. I have a spineless variety that sent out a thirty foot runner! They love wood chips BTW.

Borage is a great companion flowering plant. The really attract the pollinators . For me, they tend to fall over but still produce many flowers that I find attractive. Many people have asked me what is that plant because it does not usually found in a retail setting (I grow it from seed in my grow house).

Us either; we have some pretty strict rules, but planting anything seems to be accepted. Now, selling them in front of your house, that is not allowed. Someone a few years ago tried it and had to find somewhere else to sell her produce. It was pretty sad cause her husband was disabled, could not be left alone and the little bit of money she made on her home grown veggies helped, not only did it pay a bill or two, it helped her emotionally.
