So about a month ago I was excited to find a distressed Banana Cream Daisy. I brought it home, repotted it and waited. Sadly, it has done very little. It has grown a little larger but hasn’t grown upright, grew many leaves or flowered. I have it in full sun and water it occasionally since reading they don’t like to be wet. I fertilized it a few day ago but am just waiting.. and waiting. What more can I do?

Not much. I am a pretty good gardener, but don't have much luck with daisies. It might just be that they are putting all their energy into the root system; it might be a plant with bad genes. It might be too much sun for a transplant. Try putting a chair over it in the heat of the day and watering it with either water that has been sitting out overnight or with water that has dripped from the AC condenser pipe.

It's probably still distressed. Distressed plants don't perform well. When you brought it home and re-potted it did you examine the roots and stems to determine why it was distressed? Did it have any bugs on it? What kind of condition were the roots in? Did it have a big root ball or a small root ball? Was it root bound in the pot you bought it in? Did you re-pot it into a much bigger pot or just a little bit bigger pot?

All types of daisies need cool, damp roots. Give yours more water and keep the container in a location where it will be in dappled or part sun and part shade during the hottest hours of the afternoon so the soil and roots stay cooler then. Daisies of any type that are well established in the ground with deep spreading roots in the cool soil can get by with a little less water and lots of full sun. But daisies that are confined in containers never get a chance to become well established with long roots that can spread out underground to cooler depths. So they need more coolness and shade, otherwise they tend to dry out and go limp too easily in the summer, they won't produce as many new flower buds as they normally should, the container soil gets too warm every day and they need to be watered regularly, not only occasionally.

If you want it to survive and flourish as a perennial that comes back every year then ideally you should have it planted in the ground, not in a container. However, if you must keep it in a container then ensure that it's in a commodious container in rich soil with lots of room for the roots to grow and ensure that the soil stays evenly damp at all times. Do not let it dry out when it's in a container.

When I bought the plant it was really dry. I didn't really notice any bugs just seemingly neglected from lack of water. I didn't bother the roots and put it in a pot maybe twice as big. The plant was not pot bound. From your posting perhaps I'm not watering it enough. It's pretty consistently really hot and humid and in a black pot which I guess could be a negative if it desires cool roots. I recently moved it to a less sunny location because of the extreme heat. It probably receives 3 hours of direct sun and lots of light. Maybe if I keep it watered more here it will be happy.

Your daisy plant need more water. You need to keep it in a shady place when it is too hot outside.
