Does anyone know when is the best time to move a 15' tall Christmas or Foxtail Palm tree from a container into my front yard? Or, from the ground at a tree farm, into my front yard?
Will they survive a transplant in the Winter, as well as they would in warmer weather?
I lived in South Florida. If I planted a palm from a container, I didn't worry so much about the time of the year, although spring or summer is ideal. If I transplant a palm (in which case roots get damaged, or severed), I wait until the beginning of my wet season. For me, that was May/June.
They will survive a transplant if you water throughout the dry season. I live in the Venice area and we don’t get reliable rain until late mid to late June anymore. I planted 15 native trees and bushes in April a couple of years ago and was watering daily, every other day, every third day until July that year. I’d wait until rainy season if you can.
Transplanting anywhere is best done when plants are not currently growing quickly. Just keep them well watered since they will be missing a lot of original roots.
Sounds like April, when they are not growing rapidly, but the rainy season is upon us here, would be optimal. Thx all!
