I haven’t decided yet, but I am considering hydrangea. I have one in my yard that is huge. Otherwise, I mainly need plants that do well in full shade and I do not want hostas.
I planted Lantana in the front island and it's supposed to be a perennial but it's not looking good right now. (I'm in Florida). I'm hoping a good trim and it will come back. Don't think I'm going to mulch in that area this year. None of the seeds I planted last spring came up and I think the mulch might have been the problem.
I'm planting a contrasting combination of Lemon Ball Sedum and Emerald Cushion Blue Creeping Phlox to cover the sides of the mound that surrounds the waterfalls for the pond that I just had installed. I'll also plant bulbs between the perennials that will grow through them later on.
I love Penstemon, have quite a bit. I moved so much last Fall, then we've had colder than normal temps, I hope everything survived. I didn't leave a covering of leaves, my 3 big perennial beds are pretty bare. Going to be interesting. My neighbor gave me all her Solomon's Seal, anxious to see if it comes up.
Need to do the same to mine, but giving it a few more weeks.
Did put down some 0-46-0 which provides amazing results.

I sure do envy you people having this discussion about which plants will go in the garden this spring. Anything that gets planted outside my house, including planter pots, gets eaten by deer. Every. Thing. So this year will be different. I bought a whole pile of fake flowers for outside. I don't know their names but at least there will be something colorful to greet us when we come home or just look out the window.
Plenty of deer in my area too, I only plant those items that are deer resistant, lots to select from.

Javalinas eat or at least uproot practically everything I plant, including remarkably spiny cactus.
I think I'll pave the garden.
