What is a good outfit that sells trees on line? I’ve used the Arbor Day Foundation, they suck. Scrawny bare roots that dried out during shipping, so my total order was dead. And they ignored my email telling them what happened. Who has had good luck ordering trees online? I’m 100 miles away from any kind of tree nursery, way out in the prairie. So I’d like to order and have them delivered.

I hope you find one, but I'm not hopeful. When they advertise that a tree is 4' tall, it can be one 4' stick with a few roots and it's not fraud. Being 100 miles away would not keep me from going to pick out my own trees. In fact, we drive to Portland Oregon 1-2 times a year to go to our favorite nursery there, a trip of 180 miles each way.

You don’t say where you live. I have gotten trees from Wilson Brothers Nursery in GA, which is local for me. They are not huge, but they are potted. They offer “free” shipping.
We ordered a tree from The Tree Center, in December. Really took a chance as the reviews were quite mixed, but they have such a good selection and great prices, so we gave it a shot. Tree that arrived was better than I had hoped - good size, and very healthy. Packed really well, and arrived in under a week.

The Tree Center has done very well from all that I’ve ordered and I just received a few spirea that were unavailable locally. The order was delivered just two days after placing the order.
You might get a better price locally if you can find what your looking for, however the TC has a huge variety and their shipping/packaging and customer service is excellent.

We were after a deodar cedar, and were told by local nurseries that it would be months before any would be available, if at all. I just saw two at Lowe's, and the prices were over twice what we paid.
What kind of trees? Several of the universities with agriculture colleges sell trees that their students grow. Those a are always small trees, but healthy and extremely cheap. University of Idaho, you can get healthy pine and other trees, seedling size for $1. They grow quick.
I've bought pecan trees from Missouri.
If you want fruit trees, there are a couple of decent mail order nurseries. If you want bare root fruit trees, you have to order quite early because they sell out fast.
You can check the customer reviews on The Garden Watchdog.
Also, you don't say where you are located. If you are anywhere near the Pacific Northwest, good commercial nurseries advertise in The Capital Press (the agricultural newspaper). Their classifieds are online.
MN. My greenhouses do business with Proven Winners and Monrovia. I've found them both good to do business with but they are more expensive than buying directly through the greenhouse.
So you might want to check with a large greenhouse and see if they can order for you. This year I just ordered a Japanese lilac tree direct because the greenhouse is operating on a first come first served basis this spring.
