Yes noticing the same on the oak trees, gives them a nice natural trim.

Happy to say I have not seen or heard a single live one in days.

We were supposed to get them here where I live. People just twenty miles to the south apparently had them. The only thing I saw was a single empty casing. I don't know whether to feel disappointed or not.

still hearing a late one in a tree now.

I had suspected this but didn't know for sure until now - there are tons of egg laying events that don't kill the twig, as in this dogwood.
