There presumably is grass all around the bird feeder, have them eat that grass. IF you really want it get it quick, buy a square foot of sod and then cut to fit the surface of the area.
What is the difference and what would each of them do when it comes to covering a hole? Which one will cause less weeds and which one will cause less ant mounds? Which one is non-toxic? So far I only found non-toxic fertilizer, Scotts Natural Lawn Food. I haven't found any non-toxic topsoil.
How large is the “hole”? Larger than 8’x8’ and more than 2’ deep I would have sandy loam (just sand) delivered.. Then cover with a 2” layer of topsoil. If a smaller depression you can buy bags of topsoil at HD. Then get a bag of grass seed and spread, cover with the soil, and water daily for two weeks.
Fertilizer is only for “feeding” plants, grass, etc. with a spreader. Fertilizer is not a soil.
Weed killer is a chemical you can use to stop weeds. Often you can buy a “weed and feed” bag of fertilizer and weed killer, also at HD.
Why don't you just cover the hole with a piece of artificial turf? It will look like grass; is non-toxic to the birds; won't get weeds in it and won't encourage ants to build nests. If any bird seeds fall in it you can just blow or sweep them out. This isn't rocket science; it's a durned hole under a bird feeder. Enough already with the endless repetitive questions!
