I planted Coreopsis seeds this past spring and the plants were pretty and healthy but did not bloom. Is this one of those perennial flowers that don't bloom the first season? I sure hope so.

I planted Shasta daisy seeds a couple of years ago and they waited until the second spring to bloom so I know this happens.

Do you know what species you planted? There's around 80 species of coreopsis and they don't all have the same origins or growing habits or requirements and not all of them will grow in the same growing zones. Some species are annuals, some are perennials and some of the different types of perennials only live for 3 - 4 years while others live much longer. So it really is essential to know what you're planting if you want best performance for your specific growing zone.

In any case, you should trim yours back to around 6 inches high in the autumn once they go dormant, put mulch down on them for winter and in the spring remove the mulch. If the roots survive your winter in whatever your growing zone is then the new growth ought to grow bigger than they did this year (because they will no longer be juveniles and will have better established and larger roots next spring) and will produce blooms for you. Be sure to dead head the blooms as they expire.

I found the packet the seeds came out of and all it says is Lance Leaf Non-GMO Heirloom.
I also found this on the Spruce website. Thanks for the reply.
