In my experience bay laurel has a flatter and more pale grayer color. I'm from the West though. Don't know where this photo was taken.
One of the things that makes it more difficult to ID those leaves is the fact that it's not a clear picture to start with, and the leaves are not fresh nor are they healthy. They have been dehydrating since their removal from the tree, they're curling under and stiffening up on their way to going brittle and they're mottled all over with spots of brown rust and age spots. And the OP is reluctant about providing any information, he has not stated where he went on vacation and picked the leaves off the tree nor how long ago that was, so the OP asking about the ID of the leaves is kind of a self-sabotaged effort.
