4.Malfunctioning ignition coil
The ignition coil sends voltage to the spark plug while the engine is running. If the ignition coil is malfunctioning, the engine may not start. As with the spark plug, you can use an ignition tester to determine if the ignition coil has failed and will need to be replaced.

5.Broken flywheel key
Flywheel key is a small metal piece which fits into the crankshaft and engages with the flywheel. The engine may suddenly stop if the mower blades hit a hard object and the flywheel key will break in half to prevent damage to the engine. If this happens you will need to replace the broken flywheel key with a new one before the engine can be restarted.

6.Defective recoil starter
If the starter’s recoil spring is broken, the rope won’t be able to recoil onto the pulley, resulting in the engine not starting. Many recoil spring can be replaced individually, but if may be easier to replace the whole recoil starter assembly.

None of those are an issue for me. I have a battery powered lawn mower. It works extremely well, and is very quiet. As an added plus, I don't have to store gasoline in the garage.

You just have to buy a new rare-earth battery every couple years, one that costs nearly as much as a new mower. And thus pollute far more than a better quality gas engine mower that lasts 30 years if you take care of it.

Big hint, if there is a serious amount plastic in a product, longevity wasnt a primary goal in its engineering.

All I am seeing anymore is insane priced, heavily plastic encrusted mowers. Thats electric and gas mowers BOTH.

Most common reason gas mower wont start is cause people dont either drain them dry in fall nor use the fuel shut off between the tank and the carburetor. The prime reason an electric mower wont run beyond ten minutes is it needs a new $300 battery. Or the el cheapo crappo Chinese electric motor failed.

The surest way to avoid your lawnmower not starting is to not have a lawnmower. My lawn service mows my lawn for $25 every two weeks. 3 or 4 guys swarm on it like locusts and are done in 15 minutes.
