I recently moved to a neighborhood that has mature oaks, maples and such. The front flower beds are located under a towering oak that drops acorns which, ya know, turns into mini tree seedlings growing in my flower beds. I have been hand picking them out but there are lots of them. I thought about placing weed block but the bed encompasses a large area so that would be a pretty expensive job. I bought some Preen but not sure that would keep these seedling trees from coming up. Any ideas?

I have a similar problem with a Pecan tree. Laying down a good layer of mulch might help the acorns from taking root but I believe hand picking the saplings is probably the best way to go.
Usually they are easy to just pluck out of the ground unless you let them get to tall.
