Poor old thing, beat to heck, had it 16 years. Motor is strong. Chain & linkage shot. Is it worth fixing?

You can probably answer that yourself. What will it cost to bring it up to running condition. How long do you expect to need it?

I would guess that if the cost of bringing it up to speed (no pun intended) is over half the cost of a new one, then it's not a good idea. While the motor is an important part, there are a lot of other parts that could be costly to replace, transmission and drive train especially.

Kind of like a car that has 200K but the engine is great. At what point is it just worn out?

Check PartsTree.com - Genuine replacement parts for Toro, Echo, Husqvarna, Cub Cadet, Troy Bilt, Lawn Boy (Lawnboy), lawn equipment (lawn mowers, saws, blowers, trimmers, snow blowers) and Tecumseh, Kohler and Briggs and Stratton Engines. for replacement parts. Most new mowers today are disposable, unless you have 3K plus to shell out for a quality machine.
