Finally saw one female yesterday. What an odd hummingbird summer this is turning out to be.
I agree! Same here.
We've had some very busy days at the feeders, then hardly any for several days. By late June I usually have 4 feeders up. I put a third one up last week and took it down.

Still have not seen one female as yet.

I usually have four going myself. Last week I put out a second one, but plan on taking that one down this weekend. Also, in past years they have been so abundant I'd have over a hundred photos saved of them by this time. This year they've been so sporadic I can get my camera up fast enough to get a decent pic.
Friends who get 50-60 hummers a day are just now getting a few repeaters. This is unusual for them not to have their flock by now, but feel they will be more by next week.
I had 2 sightings the other day, both times female.
I have 14 feeders out and can tell in some of them, the nectar is less. I'm sure they're out there but I'm not seeing them. I was in my back yard under one of the feeders weeding and heard the hun of its wings. By the time I looked up, she was flying away, fast.
We've had hummers buzzing all over the place, and I have seen them sipping from my flowers, but not the feeder. I keep thinking that I must be doing something wrong? I've only had the feeder up for about a week, maybe I just need to wait awhile.
They will go after the flowers before a feeder because it's the good stuff. Sugar water is not their first preference but if there's not a lot of flowers around they will go for it. I noticed that pattern with mine. Spring and fall, when the flowers rare they hit the feeders hard. It probably depends on many factors.

I have about 60 butterfly bush in my yard with all but 2 in bloom, not to mention numerous other flowers. I've only seen one of them feeding on a BB and that was a while ago.
Despite the lack of hummers, I continue to change out the nectar, needed or not. I'm sticking with just the 14 feeders I have out this year.
