Transplanting advice for Lucky Bamboo Plant (grow, south, leaves, yellowing)

Please help I may be killing my lucky bamboo!
My lucky bamboo plant was living happily in a window sill, in the vase that it came in, for nearly a year. The vase was filled with small rocks and I've topped it off with water daily. I heard that this plant would grow better in soil so I transplanted it to a pot with soil. Big Mistake! Both the pot & the soil had been sitting in my shed for months. Maybe they were contaminated?? Maybe the root was damaged when I pulled the bamboo from its rocky home?? (I actually didn't see any roots at all)
So its now been about 3 weeks and I'm noticing the smallest stalk has completely turned yellow. The second stalk is yellowing by the day. I'm very worried about losing the entire plant. What can I do? Is there any way to save it? All I wanted to do was make it grow & I'm afraid I have ruined it. Please help!

I had the same problem a month or so ago, only my plant has been living in soil since I received it.
I googled... stalk turning yellow on lucky bamboo, several sites came up. I read... to cut stalk below the yellow. Then I put it in a cup of water, to see what happens. No roots, yet, still waiting. I guess it's been about 3 weeks that it's been in the water. It still has green leaves on it.

I was bored one day so I put my lucky bamboo in a pot of dirt to see what would happen. Well the dang thing grew and is now about 5 foot tall! It's been sitting in a southern large window for over a year and is as healthy as can be. And this is in Alaska!

Put it where it can get some sun. And don't over water it. I water mine lightly about every 4 or 5 days. Just enough to keep the soil moist.

The "Lucky Bamboo" is not a bamboo, but the stalks of a variety of dracaena. Someone came up with the "bamboo" analogy 'cause the stalks themselves look like bamboo & can be trained in all kindsa contorted shapes...it's all marketing!! If the stalks sit in water w/o rooting, they will turn yellow & rot.

The best thing to do would be to stick the stalks in a pot of potting soil & don't overwater. They will root in, start shooting new leaves, & eventually fill into a nice houseplant that doesn't need a lotta water or light.
