May 21st we planted our Early Girl tomatoes we picked the first 2 today! Had them for tomato sandwiches for lunch.

Have another 5 gallons of green beans(Blue Lake bush) snapped & ready to can up tonight. Planted pickling cukes not impressed with them. One day just the start of one then 2 days later a huge blown up one. Need to rethink planting those instead of regular cukes to make pickles.

I had a huge zuchinni looking vine come up as a "volunteer" in a bed where I spread compost.....the squash looked like zuchinni but had very little flavor..........since the vine was huge and taking over all the space and shading both tomato and the neighboring flower bed.....I reluctently cut and dug it out yesterday.....it had struck roots everyplace the vine touched the earth....what a monster plant! I did make a zuchini bread with the first one.....and that tasted good...but between all the spices, nuts, pineapple etc....you dont really taste the zuchini....but when I grilled it and served it by its lonesome......super bland!

Here's today's harvest ... kids actually had to help me out this time! The cukes are done, they've worked hard this summer! The tomatos are still coming .. yikes! I can't make any more salsa, I may as well take a bath in it! My cabbage on the right side was my first foray into cabbage growing ... it took a lot of cleaning and getting slugs out of it ... yuck!

domer good thing I like tomatoes because I am getting ready to start having about 3 times that daily. You have really done well with your bed gardening.

Our green beans and pickling cukes are really producing nicely for us. Think I have about 30-35 qts. of beans canned up and about 15 qts of bread & butter pickles. Have a kosher dill pot going of some now.

We bought a dozen ears of sweet corn tonight from a farmer near us, no flavor. The farmer we usually get it from ran out will have some more ready in 2 weeks. I am on their call list so I'll pick up a bushel to can hopefully then.

Jaxson, I had better luck than you did, with local corn from a farm in New Gloucester Maine....it was delicious and flavorful.....54 cents an ear.....is that the going rate?.....seems a bit high but since I am only feeding my partner and myself....it isnt too bad.... but for a large family.....seems a mite dear.

domergirl- Your bounty looks great.

Jaxson- You are one busy lady, lol. Good luck with the next batch of corn.

Elston- I rememebr when you could get a dozen ears of corn for $1.00. That was a long, long time ago lol.

I need help. My tomatoes are taking forever to turn red. Is this normal? I planted them May 23. All 17 plants look healthy and I have at least 100 green tomatoes of all sizes. Any ideas? Maybe it's been to cool or rainy here.

I remember those kind of prices too and even $2 a dozen, wasnt bad.... and the dozen was a 13 count.....and the corn picked fresh that morning in a farm within walking distance.
