I am in Albuquerque New Mexico and just took a bunch of cuttings from bamboo plants in an alley. I have no idea what type it is. Here's my question: Do I put the cuttings in water first to get them to root, or do I just plant the cuttings in the ground right away? If so, how deep do the cuttings go into the ground? I don't know how far down the stock to place them since they have no roots yet. Thanks! Any advice is appreciated.

We have started a lot of bamboo from other patches, but we never did it from stalk cuttings.
We always dug up a little bit of the root and planted that directly in the soil at the new location. It always started to grow right away.

STOP!!! If you don't get only CLUMPING bamboo, you'll wind up wishing you were never born.
