Every year there is a cow moose in my neighborhood that has twins. They often visit my pond. I'd like to put in lilly pads but I'm afraid the moose will just eat them.
Bud can you try live traps on the squirrels? Then drive them 20 miles out of town and drop them off? Or some kind of squirrel launcher? Might scare them enough to keep them from returning! I think a homemade potatoe gun might suffice!

so how far is where you live from lets say the tourist places. if we were to take a cruise do the ships stop anywhere close to where you live so I could visit your "garden pests"
The cruise ships come into Seward which is about the closest. Other wise they stop in nearly all the southeastern towns. Seward is about 1 1/2 hour drive from my house. I would drive all the way to Seward and say Hi if you come up.
The tourist places are pretty much everywhere in my area. We get mass amounts of motorhomes and campers consisting of out of staters and out of towners. People flock here by the thousands to partake in the fishing offered in the many rivers, lakes and ocean. Matter of fact I've already seen a few morohomes last week. It will get quiet again come September when school starts. But yeah...you'd be within range!
Well....here is the deal: the "shed" is a home-made plywood affair that has no door on the front, and innumerable holes all over besides. So....trying to plug them all up is a task I don't care to face at present. I was hoping there would be some way to scare the squirrel away. Right now I am thinking "owl decoy"...placed at some prominent spot inside....
Will it work? I'll let ya'll know....I gotta find an owl first....
And forget about relying on a cat to do the job....I got one. He spends 24hrs a day either goofing off or sleeping....heck, even the mice have the run of the place....
The spinning pinwheels work for birds in the strawberry patch. Not sure if they work for squirrels. I'll bet the owl decoy would have them crapping thier pants tho!
Karla...try to make it September. Will be awesome fall colors. October it could be zero degrees and even some snow. Early to mid Sept would be better.

you had to go post pictures of the leaves changing colors. the ONE thing I really miss about living up north. I have family members send me leaves.
I wonder if it would be more fun to just take a vacation up there or the cruise up there ?
I may have to do some research.

p.s. how are our moose's doing
do you call more than 1 moose moose"s ????
Moose is singular or plural. One moose...twenty moose. Not meese! I recommend flying up, renting a motorhome, driving all over the Kenai Peninsula, then maybe going up north by Talkeetna and seeing Denali. Maybe go into the Denali Park but at least take a flight from Talkeetna up and land on a glacier of Denali. Consider a glacier cruise from Seward or Whittier. Whales and sea lions and bird rookeries and glaciers calving. More of a spring/summer thing. Fall is nice with colors and much less people. Fishing is good right up until October in most places.
