I have a sticky situation with my lawn.....literally! :-) (landscape, mower)

hello all....
my house is on a corner lot and i've lived there for about 6 months.
it's a nice, quiet, mid. class neighborhood....with nice neighbors.

i've noticed though that i sometimes have dog poop in my front lawn left by those who walk their dogs......there's always someone walking their dog pass my house and 99% of the time, stuff are picked up....but sometimes not.

is there 'anything' i can do?

This was definitely one of my pet peaves (Pun intended) when I supervised the Landscape maintenance for a rather large Property Management Company. Most of the properties were retirement communities and of course there were the Eldery folks with all those little dogs, although a few had big dogs. If you've ever run a lawnmower over a hidden pile, personally stepped in a pile, then you can imagine how irritating it gets after long and repeated run ins.

What I did was notice the ones who did'nt pick up and those that did. Those that were conscientious enough to do it I could eliminate as suspects. Sometimes it would happen at night when no one was looking. Big dogs were easy to know where they belonged. When I found the culprits, I'd take and shove the dog crap and place it on their porch. Trust me it worked. Although there were some upset folks, the office backed me up because they all knew the rules. It almost entirely put a stop to the situation until new tenants would arrive and then given a warning the first time. But after a while I was able to train people to actually give a crap. (pun intended again)

Your only option in a open plan nieghbourhood might be to just put out the money for a fence. Aside from that, only option is to continually stand guard.

This might be tacky or look tacky, but maybe as a temporary measure you could put a little garden-border-type fence along your property line or at least on the corner. Or, I've seen these little cutouts on a stake of a dog with the red circle and slash over it that people have stuck into the ground.

It's frustrating that even though the majority of dog owners are respectful, the small handful of those who aren't create the big problems.

I have seen this in another version of the same cast iron - might have been eBay...the pooch is actually leaving a gift so there is no question as to which of the movements is more offensive the the property owner...

In my neighborhood, the best results happened when the local kids wrote "Pick Up Your Dog Poop" in very big chalk letters on the sidewalk. Lawn signs were being ignored, but something about seeing it in chalk got people to stop. Maybe because it's a reminder that little children play right there.

Maybe spread some capsacin or cayenne pepper right where a dog did his business. The dog stops to sniff and gets a snootful of unpleasantness. Its most likely one inconsiderate dog owner that doesn't bother to pick up so if that dog avoids your yard the problem might be corrected.
