Thanks to plentiful rain and no spring frost I have a bumper crop of berries this year. I picked about a half gallon today but there's plenty more to pick (my back was hurting). If you have acidic soil this is one of the easiest and rewarding shrubs to grow. I shake my head every time I see the sky high prices on those tiny little containers at the grocery store.

In June?? Congrats! Never knew blueberries grew in Florida. How long can you harvest? Here, (east of Maine), August-Sep-Oct.

I'll pick them over the next two weeks or so, then they'll be gone. These are the "rabbit eye" variety, and I'm at the NW tip of the Florida panhandle. I put mine in ziplock bags and freeze them so I can use them into the winter.

They're easy to propagate, simply sever the suckers and then dig them and plant them in another spot in the fall.

Be careful of snakes....but enjoy those berries!!! It's a happy day when the kids all have blue teeth from bowls of berries. It's a fond memory.

Yeah, I used to be able to eat a whole bowl of fresh blueberries like that, but lately they seem to give me heartburn if I eat too much.

I'm getting old.

One of my favorite things to do is lay in a hammock or porch swing on a hot day with a good book and a bowl of halfway-thawed blueberries. It's a great cooling-off natural snack!

Looks tasty!

Same here- no frost after the tree bloomed and ours is FULL of berries, but not quite ready here yet... a couple are turning last time I looked, but most are still green I think.... you are in Florida though... I guess you had a jump start.

I cant wait for a blueberry cobbler.

Oh, not sure about there, but the birds like to snatch them here.

my blue berries haven't even fully leafed out yet Then again, I think that means something. I'm not sure they made it through winter.

Strangely the birds seem to leave mine alone. The only damage I ever see looks to come from bugs, and even those aren't many.

That is strange. Its ironic, because the other evening after I read this, I went out and was going to take a photo of our tree and there was a gray looking bird in there and sure enough, he/she grabbed a berry and took off. Then today, there was a blue bird snatching one. Looks like there wont be many left on ours. I will take a photo tomorrow.
