I have the Black&Decker hedge hog. Its electric and works great. You can adjust the blade to trench or edge. Had it for about 2 years and it's going strong, just had to replace the blade recently which was about $10-I bought it at Home Depot.

Ahhh, I'm jealous! We have a pretty long concrete driveway and a good bit of concrete sidewalk in the back yard. I get so tired of seeing that St. Augustine creeping over the edges! My husband got a square shovel the other day and did some of it, but he didn't finish it. *sigh* I love nicely edged stuff. It's so blasted hot here right now, though, that you can expire doing something like that.

I had a gas edger that I bought in 1974 that finally wore out;loved it. The only one I saw still made was the troy built. But everyone that had one said they were junk. So I bought the Hedge hog which works well as long as you use it often. Not a nice powerful gas but still ok.especially to the ugly job a string type does.

I spent quite a bit of time looking for one of those lawn edgers from my childhood (aka the 'spiky thing') and have not found a place that sells it new. I would not get a used one from a garage sale because chances are they would already be worn out or not properly maintained. It seemed my Dad used to have to oil it and sharpen it once a season to keep it working, I did manage to find the straight edge "edger" at either HD or Lowe's last year. It works well on all kinds of grass edges (including the St Augustine runners) but once the weather gets really hot it gets less use. If you dropped your gym membership it's a good replacement!

I really want a push lawn mower. I could use the exercise. I haven't seen one of those in stores in years.
