Hi,

I have a large tomato plant. It has at least 20 flowers which should eventually turn into tomatoes. For some reason, those flowers just die by turning little black. I noticed there is some white spots on the branches. I removed those spots they are like powder. I also found a caterpillar on one of the leaves so I removed it. I water plant everyday. For some reason it is not producing tomatoes anymore? What can I do? I will post a picture in few days.

Thanks,

Tomatoes are actually a fairly persnickety plant. They don't like it too hot or too cold or too humid.

Blossoms can fail to set fruit if night time temperatures are too hot or too cold, or if daytime temps are too hot (or too cold).

Once they've refused to set fruit they may not pick up the pace again. If yours refuse to set blossoms, look like they may have powdery mildew, and you've also seen insect damage.....could be time to just to just give them the toss. It happens.

Watering everyday sounds a bit much unless it's in a small pot. I usually water every 3 or 4 days depending on if it rains or not.

Tomatoes will not set on when temps are above 87 degrees.

I haven't found it again yet, but there was something called tomato set. You spray it on the blooms and it tricks them into thinking it fertilized them. I used to get fruit at the beach long before they would have set and into the summer inland. It works on other flowering vegies too.

If anyone knows where to find it please tell me. My beef steak tomato is growing great, started from seed so its not full size but FINALLY had some flowers. With the way the weather bounces back and forth between 80 and 100 here I'm hoping I have a few tomatoes to remember what they are supposed to taste like.
