Our son & DIL moved to a new (to them) home and along the back lot line are 2 shrubs with pretty dark pinkish flowers. They are in Cedar Rapids Ia, and boy did they have a lot of trees & shrubs I'd never seen before. (I'm in ND).

Got all of them figured out except these.

The flowers are 2 1/2" - 3" diameter.

Rose of Sharon.

They come in many colors. we have pink...white with maroon centers...purple. We even have one bush that has purple flower's & white flowers in the same bush. Some varieties are a double flower, some single.
When the flowers dry there will be a dried pod. Inside those are black seeds. Make sure the pod is nice & dry & save the seeds & plant them for more seedlings.
The bumble bee's love these flowers. Easy to grow & propagate.

ROTFL easy to grow?
Beware, they multiply like rabbits--I have them growing in my (non-blacktop) driveway!! Help I can't kill plants and nobody wants them...

BTW, I also have a pure white one...
