Has anyone had problems with this nasty plant before. It has really taken over some open areas here in NH and is very difficult to eradicate mechanically. Suggestions?

there are other posts on this same question. To save time I'm pasting my response here. You can also do a search for Bamboo and get other ideas.

I had Japanese bamboo in my yard when I lived in Rhode Island. Here's my story of getting rid of it. Instead of cutting the stalks down, I sprayed the leaves and also the stalks with Weed-be-gone or Brush-be-Gone in a small spray bottle. Its best to do it on a hot day and you'll see the leaves wilt. As the small shoots come out of the ground they got sprayed also. You have to be persistent at it and will take a year to get rid of it all. It worked for me but not an easy job. Good luck

Japanese knotweed is listed as a noxious invasive plant in many states of the US, and is a noted problem in the UK.

Just google "invasive plants" and "knotweed" to bring up umpteen results.

You are not alone.
