I am wondering what fertilizer I can put in my garden now to stop weed growth when I rototill it soon.
But obviously not anything that will stop the veggies to grow?
Thanks

it is probably best to till your soil and prepare the seed beds and rows

when weeds come, remove them by hand

i doubt you want herbicide in a back yard garden

I agree with the advice above. If you intend to have a garden you should commit some time to caring for it. Chemicals have no place in a home garden.

Hand-pull the weeds now and until you plant. It's the only way.

Mulch after you plant to keep the weeds down, but you'll always have to pull them somehow -- by hand, by hoeing, etc.

There are ECO FRIENDLY weed and feed on the market. It's safe for pets, kids and gardens.

Usually at any big box store or on line.

If you till it now, then again every few weeks as the weeds come up, many will be killed by the time you plant. There are pre-emergent weed killers that kill the seeds but they won't help your garden when you plant it. What we did in a large planting area that has been great for the last few years is till 2-3 times as above, then create the rows, add the fertilizer/amendments, and cover with a good weedcloth. When Planting I cut an X in the cloth for each plant, and plant the seedlings. Never get any weeds all season.

Hand pull weeds & mulch I would put a weed pre emergent over the mulish as weed seeds get in the mulch too!

Happy Gardening

Gardens Alive catalog has an organic pre emergent weed control product, but I am not sure if its safe for vegetables. You could check it out.

There are many great things for the garden from Gardens Alive. Even parasite insects to eat the bad ones. They do have a weed & feed safe for animals, kids& gardens. Also ECO friendly weed & feed products at big box stores safe for kids gardens and animals.

Gardens Alive has everything but the kitchen sink. I order lady bugs and parasitic wasps to eat fly larvae. And preying mantis eggs and little critters to spray on my lawn to eat red worms.
Also I innoculate my lawns with bacillus a powder to keep moles out.

Gold fish in the horses water to eat Mosquitos larvae. There is a Mosquitos additive to add to any water feature that is safe for animals & kids available. Not the gold fish from G. A.

It all sounds spendy in the long run it saves times and damage to my garden and lawns.

Fertilizer won't kill weeds. You want a weed killer, and there are lots of organic options. Vinegar is one. You can also cover the area with plastic, the heat and lack of light will kill most of your weeds and bake most of the seeds. You don't say what part of the country you're from, so I don't know what climate you're dealing with right now. Are you under snow?
