Bought a Sears Craftsman and have 8 seasons on it - still going strong taking care of 1/2 acre every year!

I do not have a lawn mower yet. I am getting some professional help to clean up the lawn and also get rid of other bad stuff like moss/crabgrass/insect damage etc. I have dead spots which I'll try to seed.
Now,
I am planning to mow the lawn myself (at least try for the first year). Should I buy a lawn mower right now or can it wait till May ?

we bought one already. But we are town of Huntington and you can't leave bagged grass out for pickup so we are going to mulch it back into the lawn and if you want to do that you need to mow consistently. We bought a Toro. Still haven't used it bcs of this crazy weather.

You can lay down emergent herbicide for your crabgrass - but you will not be able to put down grass seed where you place it until about 6 weeks later.
You can wait until May - just don't let it get to be six inches tall.

After I tearfully retired my older than dirt Lawnboy, I picked up a Yard Machine from Home Depot for like 200 bucks with the bagger and chute/mulch kit.
2 years and no maintenance later it still starts right up and this thing is mad wicked on gas. A 2 gallon jug lasts me a season and a half.
I got a 61x103 lot, all grass other than the driveway and pool. Does a good job, and it's fairly light weight, though it doesn't look it.

You're likely to get better deals now rather than during the active season. JMHO

Do you sleep in your car, on a float or pitch a tent?
Sorry, hotkarl, I couldn't help myself and I'll never do it again...

ha ha ha. you guys are really funny. Not.
Everyone already knows I live in an 8x8 shed.
Getting rid of the house really cut back my property taxes.
Well? it was either the house or the pool, what would you do?

I've got a 15 year-old John Deere. Starts first pull every time except for the initial spring start then it takes two.
Don't have to mix gas and oil so the same can of gas (highest octane I can buy) goes in both the mower and the blower. It's amazing the difference a high octane gas will make. An old-timer turned me onto it years ago and I never went back to lower octane. Bought a siphon at a pet store that was supposed to be used for aquariums and I use it to move the left over gas from mower to blower and back again. Now I don't waste any gas.
I have a tendency to bag (I have a triple compost bin made from concrete block. Two for compost, one for dirt.) but last year I started leaving it for compost on the lawn. This year it'll be half and half I think.
