I recently read an article about an activity called guerilla gardening. It is basically when a person plants seeds or plants on a piece of abandoned or underutilized land. Usually it is done in downtown areas along old unused planting beds, tree cut-outs in sidewalks and along old vacant lots as a method of beatification.

Apparently May 1st is International Sunflower Guerilla Gardening Day! I think I may spread a few seeds around downtown Raleigh, NC and post some pictures later this summer to show the results.

Extra sunflower seeds I plan to plant around downtown Raleigh

A new sign went up today on an abandoned lot that people had been dumping trash. Volunteers cleaned it up over the past few weeks. It says, Property of the City. No dumping. It would be a great place to start a new garden. It's semi-shady, so I'm thinking impatiens seeds. Just a few here and there.

My whole life I've been tempted to try it, and now there's a name for it. LOL. There's a part of a high school field up the street from my house that isn't used for anything, and I so want to throw some blue bonnet seeds down. I won't though. They get too invasive and would probably end up spreading to people's properties, but it's just so tempting!
