Add me to the list of those not crazy about the color combo.
Hue variation in a pallet of blocks that are the same color is fine and to be expected and can make a wall look great -- but totally different color blocks -- uh, not for me.
Not liking it myself. But it looks like a color scheme the home owner has going on in the house as well, so it might look better when viewed in person. Could do a lot of warm color flower landscaping above it.
This is not my wall work. Just saw it driving in town, and stopped to take a photo.
I think its pretty decent looking. The first one I've seen with mixed block colors.
I like it, and it looks like a good and sturdy job...but I don't see any drainage tubing or gaps. No drainage leads to hydraulic pressure against the wall, which is the #1 cause of retaining wall failure.
As for the colors, that's a personal preference, but I like it. A neighbor of ours at our old home in Chicago made a wall exactly like this one (with attention to drainage) and it was gorgeous.
Not like. It should be all one color because this way it looks fake. Fake rock. I like natural, rough hewn rock that looks like it belongs there. I don't have any photos of nice retaining walls but there are ugly ones like that along the side of the highway and that's what it looks like. It will probably do the job, just like the ugly walls on the highway but it's not attractive.
