I'm just curious about avid gardeners who live in desert-like places like the Coachella Valley (CA), Nevada, Arizona, etc. . .

What type of plants do YOU have in your garden? And if you successfully grow something that shouldn't really survive in hot arid climates, what are your tips?

I expect to retire to central California within a few years. Maybe I'll learn some cool tips (pun not intended) to take with me.

Thank you!

I'm moving soon to the High Desert (Phelan CA) and from what I've read and researched, you can grow just about anything (citrus is the one item I've read that does not do well) if you properly amend the soil and use consistent irrigation (such as drip lines).

I plan on all kinds of crops from apricots, grapes, peaches to tomatoes, potatoes, cucumbers, corn and pumpkin. I will be using a drip line irrigation to keep the roots properly watered without wasting water.
