How can I get rid of crab grass in houston, tx. I have heard that I need to cut my grass short. Is that true!!
I do have weed and feed.

Move, just move I tell ya. Nothing will remove crab grass you are domed for life.
Go to your local plant supply store and tell them your problem and they will have something that will work, but like the other poster said you may need agent orange.
Spray it with Roundup and it will quickly die and not come back for a year. If you get Roundup on your lawn the area sprayed will die. Weed and Feed might work, try it. In the past I used professional lawn companies that had 4 or 5 step programs during the summer seadon here and every one I tried worked well, I had a great looking lawn too and felt their service was cheap.
It can be pulled after a rain with some degree of effectiveness. If you keep harrassing them and pulling any new plants the St. Augustine will eventually smother those, but if you have well established plants (the base is more than 2 or 3 inches in diameter) then those are very difficult to kill.
I got so frustrated I tried to selectively spray RoundUp. It killed the Dallis Grass well enough, but it also killed a radius of grass that is now excellent habitat for crabgrass and other weeds. You can dig the plants out with an edging spade, but you probably need to graft a plug of St. Augustine from elsewhere in the yard if you do, otherwise any bare patch is likely to grow more Dallis grass.
By the way, Dallis grass laughs at you and p*sses on your pathetic weed and feed.
I'm assuming that you are in St. Aug. ... Do Not Spray Roundup or MSMA unless you want dead spots ... I would try 2,4,D now ( several apps , read the label ) , after July 15 it's mature are tough to kill , just wait or pull it up ... then premerge next spring.
