Hi everyone. I have traced my Gparents on my Mom's side back to Bohemia/Poland area. they immigrated to the USA in 1911. I'm at a loss to find out my Gmother's maiden name. How do I go about that? I'm registered on Ancestry.com and Familysearch.org and am quite confused ~~ lots of conflicting info.
I ordered a census report from the 1920's. I'm hoping I'm not at a dead end.
Do you know the church they married in? If they married here, you might get church records.... If RC, they (or the diocese) have the records. My German Family was Evangelical Lutheran, so I got lucky: I had the certificates passed down. My husband's German family was RC and he got info from the church.
Same if you have a church where the baptism of children took place: I recently found my grandfather and his siblings baptisms in a church database [on Ancestry] and confirmed my g-grandmother's maiden name.
I went through a New York newspaper and found her obit. it had her Mom listed, so I assume it's her maiden name.
Thank so much to all of you that gave me great ideas..
