It's hard to say what the record is that you have ... is it a "record" such as an official discharge paper or is it data mentioned in an obituary or ?

If you're wondering about the rank, a quick google says that MT SGT is "Master Technical Sargeant". I'm honestly not familiar with anything military, so hopefully someone who is will chime in and give more details.

It's a headstone supplied by the Veterans Administration for a James A Moore from the state of Missouri who was a sergeant in the Marine Corps during both World War I and II. Pretty standard fare for the type of stone.

Just a guess, but I'd go for Master Sergeant.

Try the National Archives. The link is in a thread at the top of the forum.

Correction: the link has been posted numerous times in threads, but isn't in the top threads.

The abbreviation for Master Sergeant is MSG. I'm not sure what MT is for.

MT in the military means Motor Transport.

Here's a site with the list of abbreviations for the Marine Corp.

He was probably a Motor Transport Sgt.;
