I heard about a DNA test that can tell you the % of what races and nationalities you are. I saw this on some tv show (don't know which one) and would love to know where to get one and how much do they cost.
I'm always being mistaken for other races or nationalities when I'm "supposed" to be German/Irish (don't look like either!)
Several years ago I had whats called an ethnology test done by GenTree, you can call them and they will tell you about the different tests they provide.
The test I had done did a % of European, Native American, East Asian and Sub-Saharan African.
It really helped me know that I was on the right track and also surprised me that I had more ndn blood than I thought and no African even though I thought I did. So it gave me more ideas on where to look for our brick walls and also NOT where to look.
Black, White, Hispanic.... aren't those considered a person's "race"?
No.
There is no such thing as a "race". It is not based in any kind of biological science because it is a social construct.
Anthropologists and biologists never use race when discussing human populations.
Look up National Geographic. Seriously. I had a friend who did this about 5-6 years ago. I think they had the site for the testing. i put the link on; it traces your past lineage, by country and area -- but not a specific "family name" as most DNA does. It would tell you where your family came from.

This is true. But there is a geographical component to many "racial" terms - such as Black, White or East Asian/Native American.
Hispanic is a different situation because people from every geographic origin on Earth are represented in Latin America. That is an exclusively cultural category.

Human populations are no different from populations of any other fauna, and no knowledgeable naturalist would treat them differently. Biologists stopped using the word 'race' when they started getting death threats from people whose understanding of science is what they want to believe about it. Now they use the term "subspecies", which means exactly the same thing, when talking about other animals, and keep their mouths shut when talking about humans.
