Hmmm. Now I don't know. That certainly is possible. DNA mutates at a regular rate. One base change can determine the outcome of the amino acid produced. I'm going to have to look that up! But, we've learned a lot through breeding canines. Have you seen the Fox experiment?
Outside of albinos, natural redheads are the Whitest people on earth. You won't find people like Rupert Grint at the beaches of the Meditterranean that's for damn sure. Unless they want to end up in the emergency room for skin burns.
^ What a biased post. Genetic mutability and the adaptation that follows is not a defect. Every living creature has mutations. Sometimes they're an advantage, as fair skin is when living in a climate with little sunlight. Most often they're inconsequential.
I could point out that an inability to adapt to sun is kind of a small genetic defect. In a way.
Nope. Mutations are not "good" or "bad". They just are. If it increases an organisms fitness, then that organism survives long enough to reproduce and pass it's genes on to the next generation.

Only if it can attract a mate. Fortunately there are plenty of non-redheads like myself who are quite fond of redheads of the opposite gender. I doubt that trait will be one that dies out anytime soon.
It would be interesting to do a social/demographic study comparing these hyper white and darkest blacks.
