I've been looking into this and was wondering what any of you have used and were you happy with it?

Legacy
I've been using Legacy for as long as I can remember and I am very happy with it. Unlike a lot of "free" programs, which tend to have limitations, Legacy's free program is full featured.

I've used TMG (The Master Genealogist) since before it went on the market, and would never use another program. It is a higher end program, though, and while I think every genealogist should use it, I've come to admit that not every genealogist has the computer skills.
As with any computer program, the more it is capable of, the more there is to learn about it.

I use GRAMPS - mostly because I'm a linux geek but there are also versions for windows and mac.
Gramps
It's free open source software. I have no idea how it stacks up to commercial packages, it does far more than I need but I'm a bit of an armchair genealogist. My all-consuming hobbies are gardening, electronics and art. If someone who's more into this than me would like to give it a quick look and add an opinion that would be cool.

I'm a Legacy user too. I used to use Family Tree Maker, but switched to Legacy. I am very happy with it.

Thanks everyone. I don't mind purchasing the software if it's worth spending the money. The TMG looks interesting.
