Hi Everyone - I am just starting the process of looking back at my family history. I know it will be a short one in the US so I don't expect to get much further since I know my great grandparents left the US to go back to the old country after being here a short time. What I would like to know if when they went back? Here is what I know:
My great grandfather and great grandmother came here in 1914 from Lisbon, Portugal. They arrived in providence, RI on May 4th, 1914. I know they went back to portugal before my grandfather was born 1922/1923 so they were not here too long. Does anyone know if there are any records that show non-US citizens leaving the US??
There are definitely others in your situation. Many immigrant groups had or have local clubs that might have information. Like Portugese-American Association, for instance. I just made that up, but they had names like that. Some still have active groups.
