I know the genealogy for one branch of family which mentions a town in northern France which no longer exists under the 17th century name. My plan was to visit cemeteries/churches in what was the Artois region, trying to locate where St. Guin would have been (Sainghin-en-Weppes?)
This was a part of France that went through unbelievably multiple transfers of possession and wars over the centuries, and I'd be totally shocked if there are any records from the 17th century. Are there other locations/institutions I should try to contact or visit while I'm in the area?
The message is that there are known "knowns." There are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say there are things that we now know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we do not know we don't know. - Donald Rumsfeld
Never, never did I ever believe that that crazy quote (one of my faves, incidentally) would appear outta' nowhere...and be relevant! Rofl.
