My grandpa was born in Indian Territory (later Oklahoma) and i got a record of him on the census. Some records are held by the Mormons and you can order census, etc. at their church.

What era are you looking for? And more importantly what tribe, most records are divided up by tribe.

I know this is a super old thread... but I've forgotten how to use this site. I'm trying to find out if there are any birth records for Indian Territory for 1890? Tribe may have been Cherokee.

Have you looked at Ancestry.com or www.familysearch.org or The National Archives (NARA)?

Ancestry is a subscription database, but many public libraries offer it for free on their computers.
FamilySearch is a free site.

National Archives (NARA)
American Indian Records in the National Archives > Researching an Individual or Family

If you can't find a birth record than you may be able to get the info you seek on the person from other records, i.e. census, marriage, etc.

Here's a few sites to try to find info on the person you seek:

Native American Online Genealogy Records

Oklahoma and Indian Territory, U.S., Marriage, Citizenship and Census Records, 1841-1927

Oklahoma and Indian Territory, U.S., Dawes Census Cards for Five Civilized Tribes, 1898-1914

Oklahoma and Indian Territory, U.S., Indian Censuses and Rolls, 1851-1959

There are three federal tribes for Cherokee. The Keetoowah, the Nation and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. There are rolls pre/during/post removal. Below is the link for the rolls and what rolls to find the specific tribe. Some of these rolls you need to contact the tribe directly and are not online. Cherokees were noted on tribal records. The Cherokee Nation in OK, you can actually go into their tribal office and research these records.

The Mormons were in Utah. Cherokee are Western North Carolina (Eastern Band) and Keetoowah and Nation in OK. For Utah tribes you would need to locate tribal records for example the Ute tribe.
