Yes, all of humanity came out of what we now call South Africa, but that didn't start until the spread of populations within Africa began, about 150 - 200,000 years ago. And the first didn't leave Africa until somewhere between 60 - 125,000 years ago. By that time the continents had already been separated for millions of years.

Most of you are probably familiar with Henry Louis Gates. Here is an essay his site, The Roots published on the topic. It's written by Linda Heywood, Ph.D., and John Thornton, Ph.D. |
Obama: Slave-Ancestors Report Misses the Mark

It ends by touching on a common "problem" with DNA testing (or how those results are interpreted) for those of African descent.

Obviously, this ancestry issue did not affect his wife and his parents.

If Obama had some slaves I might care.

My wife has a slave holder in her family from way back. She is no bigot.

THIS- I'm not a fan either but I doubt I will be voting for Romney. But the man is not a slave owner.

If we keep going like this our country will split in half. I also don't care if Romney wears magic underwear, That's his religion. His business.

I think you misunderstood... this alleged tie is to a slave, in an otherwise "white" blood line, not to a slave owner.

And I haven't heard ANYBODY imply this has anything to do with the election. It's just an interesting historical note about one of the most important people of our time. DNA research is turning up all kinds of surprises in people's pasts, and I think it is fascinating when they challenge our assumptions about how things used to be.

Whatever. I don't care. Lesser of two evils - OBAMA. So that's who I'm voting for.

I don't care if his mother was related to a slave, a white slave a black or was related to one.

I also don't care how often he goes to church or what church he attends or if his middle same is Arabic.

Just as I don't care what kind of Church Romney goes to. None of this matters.

I do care that Romney has off shore money and will not show his tax returns.
